Scholarship Award


Graduate students in the field of Forensic Science who plan on pursuing work in the Trace Evidence field are encouraged to apply for the ASTEE Scholarship Award. The Scholarship provides $500 and a 2 year membership in ASTEE. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Forensic Science or related science program and must submit an application form, an essay detailing the applicant’s goals in the Trace Evidence field, official transcripts and a letter of recommendation from a professor in the applicant’s graduate program.  Deadline: February 15

Edmond Locard Award for Excellence in Trace Evidence

The Edmond Locard Award for Excellence in Trace Evidence is presented annually to a nominee who, like the award’s namesake, has made a significant impact in the field, whether through teaching, training, research, or innovations in techniques, methods, or instrumentation. The only requirement of nominees is that they have been active in the field of Trace Evidence for at least ten years. Those making nominations must be ASTEE members. The award is presented in the form of a plaque. Deadline: June 1

The Edmond Locard Award for Excellence in Trace Evidence 2019

Research Grant Award

ASTEE wants to support your research ideas. The Research Grant Award provides $500 for a project that will advance the field of Trace evidence. Applicants must have proof of membership in ASTEE and submit a written research proposal. The award recipient will provide a summary of their research results to the ASTEE Board of Directors within one year of receiving the grant. Deadline: August 1

Professional Development Award

The ASTEE Professional Development Award is meant to promote and support training in the field of Trace Evidence. Professional development activities not only deepen our knowledge and skills as professionals, they also energize us with a new enthusiasm.  This has a profound impact on the advancement of the field and furthers the mission objectives of ASTEE. This award is offered in partnership with the McCrone Research Institute in Chicago, IL. Applicants must be current ASTEE members in good standing. The award is given in the form of funding for any upcoming McCrone Research Institute class and up to a $500 reimbursement for travel. Deadline: September 15

Student Research Project Award

ASTEE is pleased to announce the creation of the new Student Research Project Award.  This $250 award is available to any undergraduate or graduate student who is pursuing a BS or higher degree in the natural sciences or forensic sciences and who is performing research in the field of Trace Evidence. Travel Award

ASTEE frequently offers travel awards for attendance at joint meetings to encourage training, provide networking opportunities, and encourage Trace Evidence related presentations.  When travel awards are offered, they are $500.  The application requirements to be considered for travel awards include the following:  the applicant must be a member in good standing with ASTEE, traveling greater than 50 miles, must send an essay of a maximum of 1000 words detailing why the applicant should be given this award, ASTEE membership number, the best address for the award, and details regarding the oral or poster presentation they will be giving at the meeting.  When ASTEE offers travel awards, an email will be sent to the membership, and specific award details including deadlines will be posted on the website.
